Actually, we are really hoping for Texas to be close to my daughter. Indiana would be a bit too cold for my wife.
Thanks for asking.

The weather is mild temperatures; summers are about 80-90 (June through Aug); winters are mid to high 30's at night, usually a range of 35 - 50 during the day. Snow may come for a week, but more rain in the winter (but not like they seem to say on TV!). Where in Dallas are you? How long until you make regular (can regulars trade with PTFs?) What are the routes like (business or residential; walking or mounted?)

Mutual Transfers - U.S. Postal Service employees can exchange jobs with other postal employees, as long as certain conditions are met.
ELM 351.6: General Policy
Career employees may exchange positions (subject, when necessary, to the provisions of the appropriate collective-bargaining agreement) if the exchange of positions is approved by the officials in charge at the installations involved. Mutual exchanges must be made between employees in positions at the same grade levels.
The following employees are not eligible to exchange positions:

1. Part-time Flexibles with full-time employees.
2. Bargaining-unit employees with non bargaining-unit employees.
3. Non-supervisory employees with supervisory employees.

Employees can post their mutual transfer requests with their appropriate postal labor unions (which are published in union publications), at some labor union Web sites, and at this Web site - PostalMag.com. (See right column for details.)

Guidelines
Letter Carriers
Carriers may not exchange assignments, since vacated routes must be posted for bids in accordance with local and national agreements.

Thanks for the information, Suflex.

Phatone: Where are you in becoming regular? If you are interested, this might buy us both time to sell homes, etc. However, if you are 10th on the list, it could take you time to make regular. Regardless, let's talk.

ive been down here in dallas district (via ereassign) since Jan of 06. was regular before coming down here. it maybe a while before making regular. the last time someone made regular was last december. im looking around, sick of dallas the city. but if i make regular soon, ill post it. im unattached, so i can basically go at anytime. routes at the station im at are usually businesses, mixed with apts. there are a few walking routes, for lower senority carriers. no all mounted routes, basically a mix of everything on most routes. the walking routes have usually are on the sidewalk if not door to door. i would say the routes are shorter here than what i had at my previous station. there are other stations to bid, a little closer north than where im at.

Where were you a regular at and why don't you like Dallas (the city - are you downtown)? My route now is 75% walking and I really like walking routes. We want to be closer to my daughter and want to live in a more warm (all year round) climate. I'm curious to know what you don't like about the area.
