Sorry for not responding sooner - haven't been on in a while. Interested in Texas; yes Carrolton would be a possibility. California is a bit too expensive and I believe has a state income tax..??

Yeah, CA does have state income tax. FYI, there's a good site Sperlings Best Places, you can compare cost of living from city to city. Some areas in CA are far cheaper than where you are at now, but I know you want TX. Hope you get to go soon! Maybe you could rent out your house to whoever trades with you.
